What's included

UX and page design

Layouts planned around what a Chicago buyer needs first: the areas you cover, proof you're licensed and insured, recent reviews and a one-tap way to reach you.

Accessibility built in

Semantic markup, keyboard support, color contrast and labeled forms to WCAG 2.1 AA, tested with a screen reader before launch instead of patched with an overlay.

Service-area page structure

A sensible set of pages for the neighborhoods and suburbs you serve, each carrying real local detail and linked so Google understands your coverage.

Quote and booking forms

Short forms that work on a phone, send leads straight to your inbox or CRM and tell the customer exactly what happens next.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Pages that load quickly on a mobile connection, measured with Google's field data and not only a lab score.

SEO-safe launch

Redirect maps, metadata, structured data and tracking carried over from your old site, so a redesign doesn't wipe out the traffic you've built.

Web Design in Chicago

What does a Chicago service website need above the fold?

Proof and a phone number. A Chicago buyer comparing three contractors on a phone wants to see which areas you cover, that you’re licensed and insured, what other customers say and how to reach you, all before scrolling. Anything that pushes those below the fold costs you calls.

That sounds obvious, yet the sites we audit often lead with a stock photo of a skyline and a slogan. Replace them with your service area, your City of Chicago home repair license if you hold one, a review score you can back up and a tap-to-call button, and the page starts doing its job.

Website accessibility lawsuits rose steeply in Illinois in 2025, according to Seyfarth Shaw’s annual count, as plaintiffs’ firms that used to file mostly in New York moved into the state. Claims cite the ADA and the Illinois Human Rights Act, which covers places of public accommodation.

There’s no federal rule setting a technical standard for private business sites, but in 2024 the Department of Justice adopted WCAG 2.1 AA for state and local government websites, and it has become the practical benchmark for private sites too. We build to it from the first template: real headings, alt text, labeled form fields, visible focus states, sufficient contrast and video captions. Then we test with a keyboard and a screen reader, because automated checkers catch only part of the problem.

Planning pages for the city, the suburbs and the Indiana side

Structure decides whether Google understands where you work. For most Chicago service businesses we build one page per core service, a small set of area pages for the places that bring the most jobs, and one honest service-area page listing the rest. A remodeler in Evanston and a junk hauler in Hammond need different area pages because their customers ask different questions.

That structure also feeds your SEO in Chicago, since area pages are what rank for “service plus suburb” searches.

Forms built for one job

The junkcars.cash lead-generation site is a good example of a website with a single purpose: we built it for a cash-for-junk-cars business covering Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, and we run its local SEO and lead generation. Sites like that live or die on the quote form.

What we’ve learned building them: ask only what you need to call back, show the phone number next to the form for people who’d rather talk, confirm the submission on screen and by text, and send the lead into a CRM in seconds. Our CRM setup for Chicago teams handles that last step.

How we work

  1. 01

    Audit and scope

We crawl your current site, pull Search Console data and list every page that earns traffic, links or leads. That list protects the launch and shapes the scope.

  2. 02

    Structure and design

Sitemap, page templates and a content plan come first. Visual design follows, in both languages, reviewed on phones.

  3. 03

    Build on staging

Development happens on a private staging link you can click through from the first templates, with real content entered as each template is finished.

  4. 04

    Pre-launch checks

Redirects tested, Core Web Vitals measured, forms and analytics verified, Arabic pages read by a native speaker, basic accessibility checked.

  5. 05

    Launch and watch

We go live, submit sitemaps and check crawl errors, indexing and rankings closely for the first weeks, fixing anything that slips.

Questions

Can my Chicago business be sued over website accessibility?

Yes. Accessibility claims against private business websites rose sharply in Illinois in 2025, filed under the ADA and the Illinois Human Rights Act. Building to WCAG 2.1 AA and keeping it there is the most practical protection. We're not lawyers, so take any demand letter to one.

Do accessibility overlay widgets protect a website?

We don't rely on them. An overlay adds a toolbar on top of the page without fixing the code underneath, and sites using overlays have still been sued. Proper markup, labels, contrast and keyboard support are what make a site usable with assistive technology.

Should my site have a page for every Chicago suburb?

Only for places you genuinely serve and can say something specific about. Pages that swap one suburb name for another are doorway pages under Google's spam policies. We'd rather build fifteen strong area pages than two hundred thin ones.

How long does a website take?

A focused service-business site usually takes several weeks from kickoff to launch; e-commerce or heavy integrations take longer. The schedule depends mostly on how fast content and approvals come back, and we plan review calls in your Chicago mornings.

Can you redesign our site without losing Google rankings?

Yes, if the migration is planned. We map every old URL to its new home, keep titles and structured data, and watch Search Console daily after launch. The post-launch traffic drops we're asked to fix nearly always trace back to missing redirects.

How much does web design cost in Chicago?

It depends on page count, platform, integrations such as booking or payments, and how much copy needs writing. We scope after a call and a look at your current site, then send a written proposal.
