Account audit
Search terms, match types, location settings and conversion tracking checked first, because that's where most wasted Chicago spend hides.
Local Services Ads setup
Profile, verification paperwork, job categories and lead disputes handled for trades that qualify, so your Google Verified listing is live and accurate.
Search and Performance Max campaigns
Campaigns split by service and area, with negative keywords that keep out job seekers, DIY searches and towns you don't cover.
Geotargeting by town and ZIP code
Locations built from your actual service area, including the Indiana side if you work there, set to reach people who are physically in those places.
Call and form tracking
GA4, Tag Manager and call tracking wired up so every lead is tied to the campaign and search term that produced it.
Matching landing pages
Pages for each service and area cluster that repeat the ad's promise, load fast and keep the phone number within a thumb's reach.
Google Ads in Chicago
Why Chicago clicks cost what they do
Because a lot of advertisers want the same buyers. Chicago is a big, competitive metro, and categories like injury law, home repair and moving attract national brands alongside local firms. Even marketing terms such as “seo company chicago” carry steep bids. High click prices punish loose targeting and sloppy tracking faster than anything else.
So the first job in any Chicago account is plugging leaks. In audits we usually find the same ones: broad match keywords pulling in job seekers, location settings that include people merely “interested in” Chicago, and conversion tracking that counts page views as leads.
Local Services Ads and the Google Verified badge
For plumbers, electricians, roofers, movers, locksmiths, lawyers and many other trades, Local Services Ads usually sit at the very top of the results. You pay per lead, not per click, and you can dispute leads that weren’t genuine.
Since October 2025, every qualifying advertiser carries one Google Verified badge, which replaced Google Guaranteed and Google Screened. To earn it, Google checks the business registration, runs background checks, and verifies licenses and insurance where your trade needs them. For a Chicago home repair contractor that means having state and city paperwork ready before you apply. We handle the setup, the categories and the weekly lead disputes.
Geotargeting a metro that crosses a state line
Chicago targeting goes wrong in predictable ways:
- Targeting “Chicago” alone covers the city limits and misses Evanston, Oak Park and every suburb you might serve.
- Targeting the Chicago DMA reaches well beyond the collar counties into Indiana and further out, far past where most crews drive.
- A radius around downtown puts much of its circle over Lake Michigan and lumps the Gold Coast in with Gary.
- Leaving the default location setting lets people elsewhere who are merely researching Chicago see and click your ads.
We build targeting from your real job map instead: towns and ZIP codes grouped into campaigns by value, the Indiana side split out if you work there, and the setting changed to reach people physically present in your areas.
Tracking the call, not the click
Chicago service buyers pick up the phone. A campaign that only counts form fills is blind to most of its results. We set up call tracking that ties each call to its campaign, GA4 and Tag Manager events for forms and clicks to call, and where your CRM allows, booked jobs imported back into Google Ads so its bidding learns from revenue instead of raw clicks. A campaign optimized toward real jobs behaves very differently from one optimized toward any lead.

How we work
- 01
Tracking audit
We check what your account currently counts as a conversion. If it's page views or a duplicated tag, Google has been optimising for the wrong thing.
- 02
Fix measurement
Tags, GA4 events, call and WhatsApp tracking and the CRM connection go in, and each is tested with a real submission.
- 03
Policy and permit check
For healthcare, property and financial services we check Google's policies and local advertising permits before launch, so ads aren't disapproved on day one.
- 04
Build or restructure
Campaigns, keywords, negatives, ads and landing pages built around the leads you want, in the languages your buyers search in.
- 05
Optimise weekly, report monthly
Search terms, bids and ads reviewed every week; once a month we tie spend to qualified leads and deals.
Questions
Should a Chicago service business run Local Services Ads or regular Google Ads?
If your trade qualifies, usually both. Local Services Ads charge per lead and sit at the top of many home-service searches. Search ads give you more control over keywords, areas and landing pages. We start with whichever suits your category and budget, then compare the cost of each booked job.
What happened to the Google Guaranteed badge?
Google retired it in October 2025, along with Google Screened, and replaced both with a single Google Verified badge. The checks behind it continue: business registration, background checks, and license and insurance where your trade requires them.
Can one campaign cover Chicago and Northwest Indiana?
It can, but we usually split them. Competitors, search terms and job values differ across the state line, and separate campaigns let you budget for Lake and Porter counties deliberately. Google's Chicago DMA option covers both and much more, which is too broad for most service businesses.
How quickly do Google Ads produce leads in Chicago?
Often within days, since ads don't wait for rankings. The first few weeks are about learning which searches and areas turn into jobs, so expect us to cut and reshape the account before it settles.
Do you run Meta or LinkedIn ads too?
Where they fit. Meta works for retargeting and some consumer offers; LinkedIn suits B2B firms in the Loop selling to other companies. For most Chicago trades, Google is where the buying searches happen, so that's where we start.
How much should a Chicago business spend on Google Ads?
Enough to get useful data in the areas you care about, which depends on click costs in your category and how many towns you cover. We look at your market, agree a test budget with you and report cost per lead from the first week.
